Introducing a Reading Group

This fall I’m going to start a reading group called “The Priest’s Study.” It’s an opportunity for Saint James attendees to join me as I read books that help inform my ministry. Let me say up front: these books will be challenging reads. They will often be old books, sometimes philosophical or academic. We had a similar group at the mother church and here’s a sampling of the books we read over the past few years:

Through the year, we’ll generally read in four major categories:

• Winter: Bible (biblical studies, history of interpretation, hermeneutics, text and canon)

• Spring: History (church history, historical theology, primary sources)

• Summer: Application (spiritual theology, culture, wisdom, psychology, politics, arts)

• Fall: Theology (theology, historical theology)

The Bible must always be our main book. But reading other books can help us to see how God’s people have read and lived out the Bible for thousands of years.

We’ll probably meet on Wednesdays at 11:30am, location to be determined. Let me know if you’d like to try it out!
