Saint James at Six Months
We’ve kept busy since the last update in January. God has been very gracious to us in these first six months of our life as Saint James Anglican Church. Here’s a brief roundup of our fellowship together before sharing a little about this past Pentecost weekend.

May 24: Pentecost Pickin’ at Silver Cumberland after worship
This past weekend was one to remember. On Friday night, we enjoyed our last Easter Feaster at the Wykoffs’. The idea behind Easter Feaster is this: our Prayer book encourages us to fast on the Fridays of the year except during the 12 Days of Christmas and the 50 days of Eastertide. So during Lent, we did “Fast Food” Fridays. There was no meat, no sweet, and we tried not to overeat. (We didn’t realize meatless soup and bread could be so tasty!) But then we came together on some of the Fridays in Easter to go all out! There was steak at the Sethmans’, charcoal-grilled burgers at the Lawrences’, and then lamb in Cleveland. And on this final Easter Feaster, we even had a live jazz ensemble playing. Seriously!
Then there was the Banana Pudding Festival at the Collegedale Commons. Joye made MeeMaw’s Banana Pudding and Rachel made a gluten-free offering. We served spoonful samples to more than 200 people and took home the “Fan Favorite” prize. This means we got the most votes from the people attending, and the organizers said “it wasn’t even close!”
Finally there was Pentecost Pickin’. After worship we went down to the pavilion in the rain and ate burgers and hotdogs and played old gospel songs bluegrass-style.
Over the past several months there’s been feasting and fasting, laughing and crying, singing and praying—much of it in homes. This has all been an extension of the Word & Sacrament we’ve received together in worship every Sunday at 4:00 PM. The Lent-Easter-Pentecost cycle ended with adults hudding under a tent and pavilion while children frolicked in the rain. In short: it’s been life in Christ together.
